Principal’s Report
Our vision is to foster every individual’s academic and social development driven by high expectations for success and aspirations for them to become resilient, respectful individuals.
Kaya Families,
Welcome back, we have enjoyed a busy start to Term 4. Thank you for all you do to ensure your child arrives prepared for school. If you haven’t had a chance to see our new basketball courts, please take some time and take your child to the courts for a play.
It was lovely to see the students get excited about their school photos, if you have missed the photo opportunity at school, please contact Photo Hendriks Direct Line: (08) 6143 5496.
On Friday 13th October, Somerly competed in the Interschool Athletics Carnival with local schools. We are proud to announce that we placed 4th overall and earned 3 championship titles. Thank you to those students who attended the carnival and represented Somerly PS with pride, and displayed sportsmanship throughout the day. Thank you to Mrs Ochieng and the staff who attended the carnival, supporting our students, encouraging them to do their best.
P&C
Thank you to our P&C who hosted a sausage sizzle and cake stall on Saturday. It was a positive way for our community to come together and raise funds for Somerly Primary school students. Sausage sizzle funds are going toward the cost of a senior playground and the cake stall will fund our community playgroup.
Our P&C need your support, even if you can only spare an hour of your time to support our Wednesday sausage sizzle lunch, without your help this much enjoyed service will not be able to continue. Please contact the P&C to offer some time to help our community out.
The Somerly Playgroup is conducted on Thursday mornings in our Art Room, please feel welcome to join the playgroup, and prepare your child for their early years learning.
Staffing
I would like to congratulate Mrs Pam Lok who attained a MSC position for Term 4 at another school. This is a promotion for Mrs Lok and ensures we are developing the proficiency level of our staff. In her absence we welcome Vanessa Summers and Helen Proctor who will be working in the front office, please make them welcome for this term. I would also like to thank Janet Metcalf and Naomi Facey, who will also be working in the front office.
Term 4 events
Please ensure you have access to Seesaw to keep up to date with the events occurring this term. Thank you to Mrs Berry and the Health committee who have organised activities for Mental Health and Wellbeing week, next week. Please ensure you have given your permission on Consent2go, so your child can enjoy the various activities throughout the week.
2024
As we begin our planning for next year, please inform the school if your child/ren are not attending Somerly next year. You can inform the school via email, Somerly.PS@education.wa.edu.au or phone 6206 4200.
With the weather warming up please ensure your child brings a water bottle to school and has a school hat, these can be purchased from the front office. Somerly is a SunSmart school, our policy is No hat, play in the shade.
Interschool Athletics
On Friday 13th of October 70 Somerly students participated in the Interschool Athletics carnival, held at Mindarie Primary School. Somerly had some great individual and team highlights including Champion medals for Ava Kiely (Year 4) and Aubree Seumanu (Year 5) and Runner-up Champion for Jesiah Ochieng (Year 4).
Overall, Somerly finished 4th out of 7 schools, narrowly missing out on 3rd place by only 30 points. We are so proud of the way our students conducted themselves on the day, showing great attributes of sportsmanship and our Somerly values. Special thanks to Mrs Sanders, Mrs Caratozzolo, Mrs Esson and Mr Robinson for their help in running the day smoothly. Well done team!
Somerly Playgroup
Playgroup Bake Sale Success
On Saturday, October 14th, Somerly Playgroup hosted their first ever event – a Bake Sale Fundraiser - and we are thrilled to report that it was a resounding success! Equipped with delicious home-baked treats donated by generous members of the Somerly Community, smiles and a set of tongs, volunteers succeeded in selling out by mid-morning. The funds raised far surpassed our expectations, reaching a total of $547.10. Proceeds from the sale will enable us to acquire essential resources and plan exciting new activities to make our little playgroup all the more special.
We wish to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed their time, skills and baked goods to our cause, and cannot wait to share this next chapter of our playgroup with you – we are deeply grateful.

Gardening Club
The start of term four has given us some lovely weather and our students have been working hard to clear all the weeds that have grown over the two weeks holidays. We have some fresh produce growing wonderfully and will be ready for harvesting soon. Last term we planted some lettuce mixes, and they are all coming through now. We currently have potatoes, tomatoes, lettuce mixes and pumpkin growing.
Everyone is welcome to come to Gardening Club which is run on Monday and Wednesdays!
