Athletics Carnival 2024
Thank you to all who attended our Athletics Carnival, it was a perfect day with so many children participating in activities and challenging themselves. We introduced a new badge of honour, our Star Sportsmanship badge. Which was presented to students who displayed good sportsmanship qualities throughout the day. Congratulations to those students, you can feel very proud of being selected. A big thank you to all the staff, it is always an exciting day, you are amazing for all you do behind the scenes and during the day to keep the children participating at their best.
Thank you to our P&C for organising the sausage sizzle, coffee and ice-cream vans and thank you to all the parents who assisted throughout the day.
Congratulations to Alkimos as our winning faction, and well done to all our competitors who put in their best efforts. Mrs Ochieng will be notifying the students who have qualified to compete in the Interschool Athletics Carnival on Friday 18th October (Week 2). Parents, please remind your child that to represent Somerly Primary School in the Interschool Carnival they also must maintain their Good Standing to attend this event. Please check Consent2Go for permission and payment due.
Congratulations to the students who attended Principal’s Lunch on Thursday 12th September, it was lovely to see all the respectful students we have at Somerly Primary School, they were especially happy with their ice-creams.
Thank you to all the parents who attended our Parent Teacher interviews, it is always valued when we can discuss our shared expectations for your children and share their journey with the clear intentions of progress and success. The Year 6 students appreciated the support with their fundraiser, they will use the funds to helps reduce the cost of their end of year excursion and graduation. Thank you to Theircare for organsing the coffee van, we hope you enjoyed their service.
WasteSorted Awards 2024
If you haven’t heard already Somerly Primary School won the WasteSorted Award for 2024, competing against other schools we were successful in winning the award due to the initiatives we currently run in the school, and with the support of the school community. The outstanding work we are doing with sorting rubbish (especially our cleaners who always do the right thing), recycling paper, FOGO bins, compost, worm farm, Waste Warriors, Captain Recycle, Containers for Change, supporting Good Sammy’s and the collaboration with P&C Sustainability Subcommittee. Through the leadership of Mrs Mulder and Ms Sanders we all contribute to make this award possible. Behaviour Focus
Our behaviour focus for Week 10:-
We are learning to: Follow all instructions given by staff as soon as possible.
This is because: everyone is entitled to learn in a safe and calm environment.
What we will see:
- Students completing tasks as requested.
- Students listening and responding to instructions.
- Students seeking adult support when they do not understand.
Students Late to School
If your child arrives late to school, they are missing critical morning routines and learning activities. The school day begins at 8:40am and students will be considered late if they do not arrive by this time. If your child arrives after 9:00am you are required to enter through the front office and provide us with a reason for the lateness. A late slip will be printed for you to give to the class teacher.
Not Feeling Well?
If your child is not feeling well before school, please keep them home and notify the office by phoning 6206 4200, sending an SMS to 0437 480 486 or emailing somerly.ps@education.wa.edu.au.
Late Collection of Students
Somerly Primary School has a student finish time of 2.45pm each day. If your child has not been picked up before 3pm, you will be required to come to the front office to sign them out.
Planning 2025
The complex process of planning for 2025 class structures and assigning staff has begun. It is important that detailed and accurate planning is completed so that we have enough staff for the commencement of the school year. If you are leaving Somerly Primary School and have not yet advised the front office, please do so as soon as possible.
Planning classes for 2025 is no easy task and staff spend considerable time and effort to ensure suitable placements, balancing every individual student’s needs, including academic, social, emotional, and behavioural. We do ask that if you have any specific requirements or considerations, please put these in writing and pass to the front office as soon as possible. Please note that all requests will be considered but cannot be guaranteed.
