Principal’s Report
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Our vision is to foster every individual’s academic and social development driven by high expectations for success and aspirations for them to become resilient, respectful individuals.
I would like to welcome everyone back to the new school year, although it is hard to believe we are already halfway through the first term.
I would like to say a heartfelt thank you for the warm welcome which I have received from everyone. I would also like to say a thank you to those parents who have joined our P&C Committee this year and have committed to giving up their time to support the school with fundraising activities.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my first few weeks at Somerly Primary School as your Principal. It has been wonderful to see and hear all the positivity around the school as I familiarise myself with the 'Somerly Way' and build relationships with staff, parents and the children.
Early on in Term 2 I will be hosting parent workshops which will give you the opportunity to tell me what it is about Somerly Primary School that you value the most and the areas which you think we can improve on as a school. This feedback will feed into our new School Business Plan which we will be developing during the course of this year. Details of these workshops will be shared with you closer to the end of term.
I wish you all the best for the remainder of this term.

Behaviour Focus
We are learning to: be respectful by using kind words and manners when speaking to others.
This is because: Everyone is entitled to feel respected and valued.
What we will see:
People using kind words
People listening when others speak to them
Students Late to School
If your child arrives late to school, they are missing critical morning routines and learning activities. The school day begins at 8:40am and students will be considered late if they do not arrive by this time. If your child arrives after 9:00am you are required to enter through the front office and provide us with a reason for the lateness. A late slip will be printed for you to give to the class teacher.
Not Feeling Well?
If your child is not feeling well before school, please keep them home and notify the office by phoning 6206 4200, sending an SMS to 0437 480 486 or emailing somerly.ps@education.wa.edu.au.
Late Collection of Students
Somerly Primary School has a student finish time of 2.45pm each day. If your child has not been picked up before 3pm, you will be required to come to the front office to sign them out.
New School Office Hours
Our school office opening hours have changed. We are now open from 8am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday.
Scooters and Bikes on school grounds
To ensure the safety of everyone while they are on school grounds, all students, siblings and parents are requested to dismount from their scooter or bike and walk. We thank you for your support with this.
Parent Teacher Meetings Semester 1
Parent Teacher meetings will take place on Wednesday 26th March 2025 from 12pm. Students will finish at 11.45am. Students can be collected from the classroom at this time. Leftover students will be supervised in the library until they are picked up from school.

School Clean-Up Day
As part of this year’s Clean Up Australia Day program, Somerly Primary School took action to help the environment by cleaning up litter around our school.
On Thursday 27th February, each class went out to collect as much litter as they could find. Unfortunately, most of the waste we gathered was plastic—mainly food packaging and wrappers. As we all know, plastic pollution is a major environmental issue, with these materials often ending up in drains, waterways, and natural habitats, harming wildlife and ecosystems.
To make the clean-up more exciting, we turned it into a Cowabunga Challenge, with the winning class earning the newly created Ninja Turtle Trophy to proudly display! Our school collected over four large 1.5L bin bags of rubbish, with Room 14 emerging as champions, nearly filling an entire bag on their own.
Beyond just picking up litter, this event gave teachers a valuable opportunity to educate students about the importance of waste management and why we should all do our part to keep our surroundings clean. Room 19 took their learning a step further by creating eye-catching and informative posters to spread awareness.
As a Waste Sorted School, we understand the importance of protecting our planet. This event was yet another successful example of what we can achieve as a community to live by our motto: “Save our planet to save our future.”
